Mons Cheese

If France is the land of cheese, the Roanne area is no exception. In 1964, Hubert Mons and his wife set off to sell cheese on markets, a modest start to an adventure that was to become a real success story of a family business. Today, the two sons, Laurent and Hervé (Meilleur Ouvrier de France – Best Craftsman in France) are at the head of the cheese dairy that matures 190 different types of cheese on a permanent basis. Maturing is their core business: a former railway tunnel has been refurbished as a maturing cellar and an exceptional one at that which provides an almost exclusive range of products.

And for cheese lovers… The Collonge Tunnel now welcomes, upon appointment, individuals or groups for a guided tour of the ripening cellars followed by a tasting of the products. Whether creamy or dry, fruity or lightly spicy, all can be enjoyed without moderation !
